Officer's black wool superfine mess jacket with medical corps cherry red wool shawl or roll collar, pointed cuffs and shoulder straps. The shoulder straps are edged in gold bullion oak leaf pattern braid or trim, insignia for major general. The straps fasten to the jacket near the collar by gilded brass buttons in the style of the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC) badge. The jacket is lined with black silk. The jacket has no buttons down the front.
